Coenzyme A and Acetyl Coenzyme A
The terminal sulfhydryl group in coenzyme A (CoA; left image) is the reactive site of this heat-stable cofactor, necessary in many enzyme catalyzed acetylations. Acyl groups are linked to CoA by a thioester bond. The resulting derivative is called acyl CoA . An acyl group often linked to CoA is the acetyl unit; its derivative is called acetyl CoA (right image).
